An only daughter raised amid rough-and-tumble sons, Constance Bonacieux grew up exposed to the vivid adventures of boys, expected only to take part in the quiet, domestic pursuits of girls. She is warm and compassionate and insecure and brave, and she has no idea what a good person she is. Instead, she sees herself only as uneducated but pragmatic. Married off young to a draper who is affectionate in his own way but whom she does not love, it's only after d'Artagnan enters her life that she realizes how absolutely unhappy she really has been. Wearied by life and practical to a fault, she often comes off as older than her years; get her to smile, and you can see again the bright young girl she might have been. The adventures d'Artagnan brings with him, however, are not always so pleasant, and it's after being kidnapped and repeatedly held at gunpoint in The Musketeers 1x10 "Musketeers Don't Die Easily" that she arrives in Darrow.
